In a successful attempt at preventing wildlife trade Wildlife S.O.S. anti poaching unit with help from Chattisgarh police seized one Leopard skin and arrested two traders…
The Wildlife S.O.S. Anti poaching unit “forest watch” has been actively working in the heavy naxalite affected areas of the state of Chattisgarh, which is also heavily infested by poachers and wildlife smugglers. The team has been working in conjunction with the Chattisgarh Enforcement agencies to curb wildlife crime in the state. Wildlife intelligence reports say that heavy poaching and smuggling is happening in the state under cover of the Naxalite problem.
One such intelligence report led the anti poaching team and the Police of Kanker district of Chattisgarh to a “trader” who was looking for a customer to sell a Leopard skin. So a decoy customer was sent to start negotiations and a deal was struck up between the “trader” and the decoy customer. When the decoy customer went to meet the “trader” on the specified day of delivery the “trader” had another of his accomplice with him and both were nabbed by the Kanker Police.
Kanker Superintendent of Police Mr. Ajay Yadav who has been very active and supportive in checking wildlife crime in his area said “We are working against crime and it’s my duty to curtail all sorts of crime happening in my District. Since March of this year we have successfully attended to five Wildlife crime cases in my area and I am committed towards it for the future also.”
Meetu Gupta, Wildlife S.O.S. Anti Poaching Officer said “We are very grateful to Kanker SP for his prompt and efficient handling of the matter which led to a successful seizure. Being a highly naxalite affected area and humming with tension the seizure proved more of a challenge and would not have been possible if not for Mr. Ajay Yadav who is a dynamic and remarkable officer. In the recent past also he has successfully closed five wildlife crime cases where the criminals were apprehended and the wildlife products seized. His dedication and commitment to the cause is highly appreciated by us.”
Wildlife S.O.S. has been a part of 3 wildlife seizures in the last 6 months conducted by Kanker SP.
