Although no stone was left unturned in trying to convince the Kalandars to send their children to school, only one application form was received by the Kalandar Rehabilitation officer Prerna Sharma. With the incessant spell of rains that Delhi is enjoying, it is not surprising that the Wildlife S.O.S. rescue helpline has not stopped buzzing, as the reptile community is coming over ground in search of food and shelter. One such call led to the rescue of a Common Krait, one of the deadly four reptiles found in Delhi, in the up market Saket area of South Delhi.

Finally Free! Champa settles into her new home

It was nine years ago when we first saw Champa (Hindustani for Jasmine). She walked at a painfully slow pace on the scorching tarmac on a very hot summer day on the Delhi Agra Highway. As she uncomfortably lumbered into a small hotel just off the bustling free way, she clearly seemed to be in agony. She was limping and a closer look showed an inflamed foot pad and an old suppurating injury. Our friendship was cemented at that very moment. Read more »

Four sloth bear cubs rescued from poachers just as they were about to be smuggled out of India are lucky to have escaped a terrible future. If not rescued, they may have possibly ended up as a bowl of bear bile soup in a south east asian restaurant or as Dancing Bears at the end of a rope on a dusty highway, destined to live a life of misery and pain!

Victim of man-animal conflict goes home

The start of 2010 saw Wildlife S.O.S. receive a S.O.S. from the Dholpur Forest range (Rajasthan Forest Department) for a  Hyena who was a sad victim of mob assault. Kartick Satyanarayan, co founder, Wildlife S.O.S. immediately coordinated with the forest officials for transferring the animal from Rajasthan to Agra Bear Rescue Centre for necessary and advanced  treatment.
