29 rescued leopards call our sanctuary in Maharashtra home. Some came in as orphans, and others were trapped as adults after straying into villages and sugarcane fields. Each of them has a personality, a name, a history... and, thanks to supporters like you, a future.
The leopard center is a relatively new project for Wildlife SOS, and we are committed to expanding existing enclosures so the leopards have more room to climb and exercise, as well as broadening our education programs to prevent more leopards from being trapped. Our goal is to make life happier for the leopards in our charge, as well as safer for those in the wild.

Jaya's Story:
Jaya and her sibling Bhima were orphans who were found by a farmer in a sugarcane field in the croplands of Maharashtra. No one knows for sure what happened to their mom. Luckily, these leopard cubs were brought to our rescue centre for weaning and hand raising. No sooner had they settled in then the centre welcomed Shankar and Jiya, two more cubs. They were brought to Wildlife SOS after their mother succumbed to injuries incurred while hunting for the cubs and herself.
At the time of the influx of cubs, our veterinarian said, "They are like small cannon balls. They come charging at you and go smack and thump at you. And the socialization process of both sets of cubs went very smoothly with each of them mixing very well with the other. Although they are housed in different enclosures every day the cubs are given some time together to maintain their bond with each other."
Now more than a year has passed, and Jaya and the other cubs are healthy and safe. While we wish they could be in the wild again, as they were meant to be, we are committed to creating a life that is the next best thing. And with your help, they will thrive with us their whole lives through.
